Newsbrief: Michigan judge approves tax hike

A Michigan judge rejected an industry-backed lawsuit that sought to block a new 24% wholesale tax from taking effect.

The tax had been approved by the state legislature and signed by its champion Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D). The lawsuit unsuccessfully argued that the bill had to pass with a 75% supermajority in order to take effect.

Whitmer proposed the tax as a way to fund road repair and the state projects . . .
