Curaleaf fights ‘class’ status in tip theft suit

Leading MSO Curaleaf asked a federal judge to reject class action status for a 2022 lawsuit alleging the company "maintained a uniform 'policy' of 'tip theft."
In an Illinois court filing this week the company argued that discovery had proven its pre-February 2022 tip practices were no a company policy but a "patchwork' of legacy practices inherited through serial acquisitions, varying by state, store, manager and time."
In Illinois alone, it said Curaleaf store practices included: "tip jar; tips used for food purchases, a 'take a penny, leave a penny' slush fund; rotating monthly . . .
