Michigan state representative James DeSana (R) introduced a bill to repeal the state's 24% wholesale tax, which the industry is blaming for a wave of shop closures.

The tax, which took effect in January, aimed to raise $420M annually for road repairs. The industry warned it would raise nowhere near that much since higher prices would drive shoppers to the illegal market. In June it was reported that the tax had raised only about one third of the projected $105M . . .
