The introduction of a specific medical code in October 2025 has greatly increased reporting of cannabis hyperemesis syndrome on emergency room visits.
Between January 2023 and and September 2025, CHS accounted for roughly three out of 10,000 emergency room visits nationwide. As of May it was nearly 14 out of 10,000 visits according to a new study from the Centers for Disease Control. The condition is typified by intense abdominal distress and uncontrolled vomiting.
