Taken together, several small developments this week in Washington D.C. suggest the federal government is beginning to realize it can’t ignore cannabis forever:
- The FDA released guidelines for MED research. MJBiz called it “a bit of a letdown” for the cannabis and hemp industries. Canna Law Blog gave it a close read.
- The House of Representatives approved a measure to allow military service members to use CBD.
Marijuana Moment - Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said the hemp industry is off to a rocky start.
Marijuana Moment - A former senior CIA official said the federal government “should end, or at least ease,” restrictions on granting security clearances to individuals who have used cannabis in the past.
Clearance Jobs - A federal agency said it was launching a program to ensure dispensary bought products are accurately labelled.
Marijuana Moment - However, it looks unlikely that cannabis banking reform will be included in the next round of federal COVID relief.

BTW, MJBiz suggests cannabis the industry could have a staggering $130B economic impact by 2024.
